More than two-thirds of Coach\u2019s nearly 900,000 new customers in North America were Gen Zers and millennials in the last quarter, the brand said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coach President and CEO Todd Kahn said he and creative director Stuart Vevers focused on what they called the \u201ctimeless Gen Z client, \u201d which \u201cbecame the muse\u201d for the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we started focusing very dramatically on them, so many other things started to happen in a good way,\u201d&nbsp;he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parent company&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/TPR\/\">Tapestry<\/a>&nbsp;reported in its latest earnings that Coach revenue grew 15% compared with the same quarter a year prior and saw a 77.1% gross margin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn this sector, it\u2019s really rare to take a kind of mediocre mall brand that has been tarnished and then elevate it to be a credible luxury contender,\u201d said&nbsp;Aneesha Sherman, Bernstein\u2019s managing director of U.S. apparel and specialty retail.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Handbags like the Brooklyn, Tabby and Rogue have become hits for Coach. The Brooklyn was named the hottest fashion product of the fourth quarter of last year by global shopping platform&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lyst.com\/the-lyst-index\/2024\/q4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lyst<\/a>. Demand for Coach products on<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Lyst<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>was up 332% year-over-year, the company said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coach also leaned into customization, as shoppers can buy broaches and bag charms for their purses and also create their own. According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/trends.pinterest.com\/?country=US&amp;amp;keywordsToInclude=bag%20charm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pinterest<\/a>, searches for \u201cbag charm\u201d and \u201cbag charm ideas\u201d in the U.S. have grown 200% and more than 10,000%, respectively, between May 2024 and May 2025. Coach\u2019s cherry charm, which retails for $95 on its website, has been a huge hit, the company said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coach has also opened immersive concept stores called Coach Play and is getting into hospitality with Coach Coffee shops.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI often joke we\u2019re an overnight success story five years in the making,\u201d said Khan, who became president and CEO of Coach in an interim role in 2020 before taking on the permanent job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between January 2020 and January 2025, Coach\u2019s market cap expanded by about 140%, according to Bernstein.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re kind of ticking all of those boxes in terms of the quality and the value for money,\u201d said Fflur Roberts, Euromonitor International\u2019s head of global luxury goods. \u201cIt comes at a very good time for them, especially when other, or some consumers, are questioning the actual value, like monetary value of the goods that they\u2019re buying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2025\/06\/25\/how-coach-pulled-off-a-comeback.html\">Watch this video to learn more.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article was originally published on cnbc.com: https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/25\/coach-comeback-retail.html Published Wed, Jun 25 2025 8:00 AM EDT Natalie Rice Luxury retailer Coach has made a comeback after a strategic rebrand, successful celebrity partnerships and revamped designs.
